Why Does St. Cloud State Need a Women's Center?
Since the early 1970's, universities throughout the U.S. have opened
centers to respond to inequities experienced by women both in and outside
the classroom. A large body of research has clearly documented sex discrimination
in educational institutions. widespread violence against women, particularly
acquaintance rape, is another reason women's centers exist on university
campuses.
What does the Women's Center Provide?
The Women's Center provides information on important community services
and issues such as sexual assault, domestic violence, child care, counseling
and sexual harassment.
The center's staff provides support and makes referrals for women seeking
assistance with personal and professional decisions. Re-entry and non-traditional
women are encouraged to use the center's services.
How Is the Women's Center Connected With Other Centers and Programs
on Campus?
The Women's Center serves as a campus focal point on women's issues and
