The 50th Winter Institute will be held on February 29 at Kelly Inn, St. Cloud and March 1, 2012 on the campus of St. Cloud State University.
This year, we will explore the relationship between natural resources and our economy. From New Orleans and Japan, we learned how fragile our economy and our society can be in the midst of natural disasters. Even when the epicenter is thousands of miles away from home, the economic shock waves can reach in just a few days in this era of accelerating economic globalization and nano-second technological innovations. What these tragedies exposed are our limited options of energies that fuel the United States and the global economy with a population of 6.97 billion. How can we meet these challenges and, more importantly, find opportunities to improve our community and our economy? What roles should governments and businesses play? This is what the 50th Winter Institute is about.
