
Lynn ScarlettLynn Scarlett is currently a Visiting Scholar at Resources for the Future (RFF) in Washington D.C. and has recently become a Co-Director of its Center for the Management of Ecological Wealth. Before joining RFF in 2009, she served at various positions in the Department of the Interior, including four years as Deputy Secretary and Chief Operating Officer. As an environmental analyst, her work focuses on landscape-scale conservation; climate change adaptation; greening of business and infrastructure; wildlife, energy and water issues; and science and decision making.
During her tenure at the Interior Department, she spearheaded creation of a Cooperative Conservation Task Force, which she chaired, and established a partnership and collaboration office in the department to strengthen interagency cooperation and conservation partnerships with other agencies, states, tribes, local governments and landowners. She also chaired the Department's Climate Change Task Force and served as chair of the Wildland Fire Leadership Council in 2004. She also co-chaired First Lady Laura Bush’s Preserve America initiative to encourage linkages between historic preservation and economic opportunity in communities. Since leaving the Interior Department, she has published numerous reports and articles on environmental issues and policies.
Lynn Scarlett received her B.A. and M.A. degrees in Political Science and undertook graduate studies at the University of California - Santa Barbara. Currently, she serves on the board of the National Wildlife Refuge Association, American Hiking Society, the Continental Divide Trail Alliance, RESOLVE (nonprofit environmental dispute resolution), the Consensus Building Institute, and Girls Inc. of Santa Barbara. She is a trustee emeritus of the Udall Foundation. She serves on the advisory board of Marstel-Day, a Virginia-based environmental consulting firm and also is a strategic advisor to the Washington, D.C.-based Bracy, Tucker, Brown and Valenzano on resource management issues. She is also a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and a former president of the Reason foundation.
