Volunteer Connection : Getting Involved

How to Get Involved

There are several ways you can get involved with community service:

  1. Volunteer with a community service agency as an individual or group (see the listing of local agencies and a description of their volunteer needs). Once you identify an agency of interest, contact the Volunteer Coordinator for the agency (at the telephone number or email listed) to discuss your interest and get more information.
  2. The Volunteer Connection Service Bulletin lists information about service opportunities, special events, and nonprofit agencies that we hope will help you get involved in the community. This bulletin is emailed every two weeks during the fall and spring semesters. If you want to receive our electronic newsletter, send an email to volunteer@stcloudstate.edu.
  3. If you are interested in participating in one of Volunteer Connection's special programs, call or stop by our office for more information.
  4. Husky Helpers (formerly Z-Club), an SCSU student organization that promotes service opportunities, has weekly meetings in Atwood. For more information, look them up on the Center for Student Organizations and Leadership Development page at http://www.stcloudstate.edu/csold/studentorganizations/default.asp or email huskyhelpers@stcloudstate.edu.
  5. Volunteer Central Minnesota is a service of United Way of Central Minnesota that instantly links you to volunteer opportunities that match your interests, skills, and schedule, call (320) 252-0227, or visit www.unitedwayhelps.org.
  6. If you are interested in volunteering, but are not sure what agency would be a good fit for you, it may be helpful to meet with Volunteer Connection staff. We would be happy to help you match your interests with an appropriate agency.
