This bi-weekly bulletin lists information about one-time and on-going service opportunities, special events, and nonprofit agencies that we hope will help you get involved in the community! International Volunteer Organization

  • Want to travel overseas and explore a new and exciting country this summer?
  • Ever wanted to travel to New Zealand, Australia, Costa Rica or Dominican Republic? Want to volunteer and make a contribution to the global community?
  • Want to possibly earn academic credit for having this awesome adventure of a lifetime?

 Who is ISV: A non-profit international volunteer organization who send thousands of students overseas each summer to explore the world and give something back by volunteering. Students spend two weeks participating in volunteer programs and then two weeks taking part in adrenalin packed adventure activities while exploring their host country! Community-Wide Garage Sale to benefit survivors of recent hurricanes.

Volunteers needed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Do you need to fulfill academic course volunteer hours?              
  • Would you like to see how a small business is organized and then dismantled within one week?
  • Are you looking for a great social group activity?
  • Do you want to help out in the community?

November 11-12:       Help receive donated goods from the community.
November 14-17:       Sort and price goods.
November 18-19:       Staff the garage sale.

Hattiesburg, Mississippi was greatly affected by Hurricane Katrina.  A community partnership through the Central Minnesota Community Foundation has formed to respond to the needs of a community similar in size to St. Cloud.  Approximately 200 volunteers are needed for this week-long effort.  All activities take place at Fingerhut Fulfillment Inc., 6250 Ridgewood Road, St. Cloud.

Groups of 5 volunteers or more will be able to sign up for various shifts through the United Way’s website at www.unitedwayhelps.org.  Shifts are 3-4 hours in length.  Individuals wishing to volunteer or those seeking more information can contact Sonny or Kim at United Way at (320) 252-0227.

Tri-County Humane Society

Permanent Volunteers Needed!!!  Shelter Worker: Volunteers provide a clean, inviting environment for the animals and the public that visit the shelter.  Exercising, bathing, and grooming animals will increase their chances for adoption.  Shelter workers can walk dogs, do laundry, wash dishes, and work with customers to select an animal that they would like to adopt.  Two hour commitment per week.

Offsite/Mobile Adoptions:  Volunteers take animals to local area locations (Petsmart, Petco) and set up a mobile adoption unit.  Customers at either pet store will walk by and volunteers should encourage customers to have interaction with the animals. Great customer service skills are a must!  Actual adoptions are completed at these sites.  Tome commitment is about once a month on a Saturday or a Sunday.  Must be 18 years old and have your own transportation. 

Animal Photographer:  Volunteers photograph animals for our website and download the photos.  Two hour commitment per week.  Experience with a digital camera and downloading is preferred. 

Temporary Volunteer Fundraising Opportunities:  Gift Wrapping @ Crossroads Center:  Volunteers meet for their scheduled shift in the mall just outside of Target.  Wrapping gifts, making bows, and organizing owners and their gifts, are the usual duties at this stand.  All proceed benefit the homeless animals at the shelter.  Commitment varies-all based upon your schedule and what you are able to sign up for. 

Door Greeting@ Crossroads Center:  Volunteers will meet at customer service 15 minutes prior to their scheduled shift, sign a waiver, pick up give-aways, and pick up an apron to wear.  Volunteers will then proceed to the door they signed up for to volunteer as a door greeter.

Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity

The Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers for painting a house in the St. Cloud area and also seeking volunteers or individuals or groups to assist in a large mailing going out the middle of November.  If you have further questions or are interested in volunteering please contact Jeff Carmack at 320-656-8890.

Bridging, Inc.

Planting SEEDS of Social Change Conference

18th Annual Conference of the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness. This conference is at Seattle University in Washington on November 11-13th.  Join students working on these issues.  Throughout the conference, students will learn from some of the top activists, organizers, and advocates in the country! Children of Multiple Cultures training

Conference Goals: Learn strategies for creating and building positive cross-culture relationships, Understand the changing Central Minnesota community and its families, as well as the opportunities this presents, Gain practical ideas for working with children and creating a more welcoming multi-cultural view, See creatively through a multi-cultural lens, Understand and respond to people’s gifts and the uniqueness within each of us.  This event is on November 12th from 8am-3:30pm at South Junior High School in St. Cloud MN.  For more information please email Betty at bschnettler@unitedwayhelps.org or call 320-252-0227.
