Summary of agency programs: New Beginnings is a transitional housing program that is a home to pregnant women and single women and their babies up to one year of age. The program provides opportunities to work with two licensed social workers for their maternal and infant needs along with networking and referrals for services such as education, training, employment, WIC, health care. New Beginnings provides skill-building to move towards independent living.
Volunteer needs: Babysitters for occasional daytime and evening hours, usually notified about a week in advance. No time commitment or requirement. Mentors for our pregnant women to befriend and encourage them during their stay, doing fun activities, helping them out, listening to them. Commitment of an average 1-2 hours per week for the length of their stay, which can be up to a year-and-a-half. Drivers to occasionally transport women to places they cannot reach with the bus system, usually notified about a week in advance. No time commitment or requirement. All our volunteers must go through an application process which includes a criminal background study.

Christmas Party: Serve refreshments, distribute door prizes, take photos and hand out treat bags at the annual Christmas Party for people with developmental disabilities and their families in early December. Parent Group: Help provide care for young children with Down Syndrome and their siblings while parent enjoy a break and a chance to network. Meetings are generally held once per month.
People First: Seeking advisors for the People First group that assists adults with developmental disabilities and related conditions to learn more about self-advocacy, share common interests, and support each other during monthly meetings. Advisors must be adults and have at least two years of experience relating with adults with a variety of developmental disabilities.
Pilot Parents: Seeking volunteers who have parented a child with special needs for at least two years to mentor other parents of children with any special need. Training is provided and each match is individualized to meet the needs of the families involved.
WOW-Faith in Action: Facilitate the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in your faith community by serving as a one-to-one mentor. Volunteers need to be 21 years of age, have reliable transportation and pass a background check.

Our need for volunteers generally falls into three categories: Respite weekends, Winter Camp, & Summer Camp.

Summary of agency programs: Project ASTRIDE is a nonprofit organization that provides therapeutic and recreational horseback riding experiences for children and adults with disabilities from the central Minnesota area. The program runs Monday through Thursday from April through October. Volunteers must be at least sixteen years of age, and must provide their own transportation to the site, which is located south of St. Cloud. Experience with horses is not a requirement.
Volunteer needs: Volunteers are trained to assist participants with grooming, tacking, and moving safely around horses and will also lead horses or walk alongside participants during the hour long classes. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one hour long class for the eight week period that the class runs, and are also needed to assist with fund raising, coordinating volunteers and riders, and administrative duties. They are currently seeking a volunteer coordinator and grant writers; sessions run from April-October.

Summary of agency programs: The Sheriffs Youth Programs of Minnesota (SYP) is a child-care agency that provides a multitude of services to Minnesota’s children. Their services include Residential Care, Short-Term Consequences, Group Homes, Day Treatment, Family Foster Care, and Aftercare. The SYP Group Homes offer coeducational and gender specific programs for children ages eleven through seventeen. SYP Group Homes provide a nurturing and structured living environment.

Summary of agency programs: An extended day treatment program that serves at risk youth ages 12-18. They provide a safe, nurturing, structured setting which teaches social skills, builds therapeutic relationships, modifies behavior, and provides group and individual counseling. This is a strength-based program and is goaled to keep the kids at home.
Volunteer needs: We ask that volunteers commit to coming to our facility once a week for the duration of the semester. We accept volunteers to have them assist our youth with their homework. Process individual goal work with kids. Be a positive role model, etc. Due to limited space and to help prevent a "chaotic" environment . . . we usually will only accept one volunteer per day.

Summary of agency programs: Provide effective services of support, information and counseling to older adults and their families who may be experiencing chemical/mental health problems.
Volunteer needs: Peer volunteers offer compassion, understanding and support to other older adults who are suffering from chemical dependency. Provide a listening ear by being a mentor and providing transportation t support meetings. Volunteers must be free from mood-altering chemicals, attend annual training and shorter educational trainings.

Volunteer needs: Every summer the MDA needs to recruit approximately 100 volunteers to work one on one with a camper at our week long summer camp. The volunteer will need to be a care giver and the mentor for camper and be willing to assist with activities of daily living, supervising and help each child to be able to participate fully in camp activities. The needs of the campers vary significantly with age, and what neuromuscular disease they are affected by.
