The university's proper name -- to be used in all first instances -- is St. Cloud State University.
St. Cloud State is appropriate for successive references. In a possessive form, spell out the full name: "St. Cloud State University's campus is located on the Mississippi River." The word Saint is abbreviated St. in all instances. SCSU is not a preferred institutional name because St. Cloud State shares that acronym with at least three other U.S. colleges.
The correct spellings for St. Cloud State team names are "Husky" (singular) and "Huskies" (plural).
One of the key elements in developing and maintaining a strong institutional image is consistency of visual elements.
Any letter, web site, poster, banner, t-shirt or other representation of the university should reinforce a positive visual image of St. Cloud State through appropriate use of color and graphics. Repeating strong images is sound strategy. It creates impact and develops familiarity with St. Cloud State, its name and its identity.
Why a Style Guide?
Guidelines presented in a style guide take the guesswork out of designing and ordering printed material - such as business cards - and help student organizations and other groups choose appropriate graphic elements for t-shirts and other specialty items that represent St. Cloud State.
To further assure consistent use of our identification, all printed and specialty items that contain the wordmark, the seal, logos and other graphic representations of St. Cloud State University must have prior approval from University Communications, AS207, (230) 308-3151, which is also your resource for questions regarding use.
All approved graphic representations of St. Cloud State can be downloaded from http://www.stcloudstate.edu/imagegallery. They are also available in camera-ready form or on disk from Printing Services and University Communications.
