St. Cloud is the largest population center in the state's central region. It was named after
the city of St. Cloud, France, which is located right outside of Paris. St. Cloud extends into
Benton and Sherburne County. It is one of the fastest growing areas in the state and maintains
95 parks. Currently, St. Cloud Area has 17 schools, two alternative education options,
consisting of 9,329 students.
St. Cloud School District, Bruce Watkins
Superintendent Bruce Watkins attended St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth. He was a Teacher in Proctor, Minnesota, from 1972-1978; Principal in Proctor from 1978-1999; and Assistant Superintendent/Director of School Operations for Duluth Public Schools from 1999-2004. Bruce served as Superintendent of St. Cloud Area School District 742 since 2004, and retired on June 30, 2008.
