Principles

The basic principles that the Roundtable identified as critical to the establishment of a useful Technology Plan are as follows:

  • The University is committed to allocating the resources necessary to implement this Technology Plan.
  • The University is committed to a plan that balances human values with technological development.
  • The University is committed to multiple platforms to support the complexity of campus needs.
  • The University is committed to providing student access to electronic resources without requiring each student to buy or lease a computer. A lease or purchase option will be available.
  • The University is committed to providing access to electronic information, private or otherwise, within the legal limits of the law.
  • The University is committed to providing professional development, training and technical support opportunities for faculty, students, administrators and staff.
  • The University is committed to providing all of its students with the technological background needed to be successful in the workplace and in advanced study.
  • The Teaching, Learning and Technology Roundtable will review and assess university technology plans and recommend them to the Office of Academic Affairs for action.
  • The TLTR is committed to participation from the broad university community.
  • The TLTR will continue to meet on an ongoing basis to monitor and assess the progress and impact of technology integration.

Funding

The TLTR recommends that all funds currently used for information and communication technologies in both the academic and administrative areas be identified. This exercise will help decision makers better understand the budgetary needs associated with this Technology Plan. It is anticipated that the Office of Academic Affairs will play a key role in implementing and evaluating this plan in order to provide the best possible support to this important teaching and learning initiative. A thoughtful budget allocation process is critical to the success of this strategic campus goal. (Appendix 12: TLTR Budget Recommendation to Fulfill the Technology Plan proposes a technology budget for the next five years.)
