After graduating with a Theatre Degree from SCSU in 1980, Walter was hired by the Walker Art Center in Mpls. As the Performing Arts /AV Technician, he worked with and has been influenced by many internationally known artists, such as: The Kronos Quartet, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Wilson, Ping Chong, David Byrne, Eric Bogosian, Phillip Glass, Anne Magnuson, Bill T. Jones, Merce Cunningham, Trisha Brown, Mabou Mines, Lee Breuer, David Warrilow, Spalding Grey, William S. Burroughs, and even Ray Harryhausen.
Working as a Seasonal Theatre Technician for TFSD at SCSU since 1987 has given Walter the opportunity to develop his own artistic skills. He serves the Department as scenic studio supervisor and safety officer, and assists in: audio design, editing and engineering, technical direction, production management, CAD drafting, scenic design, scenic artistry, property design and production, keeper of the production calendar and as an occasional photographer.
As a freelance artist, Walter has created “Fairy Fossils.” which are three-dimensional, scientific-looking plaques of the fossilized remains of mythological creatures. In the spring of 2005 Walter added the title of Inventor to his repertoire with a U.S. Patent of his Universal Role Playing Game Elevation Indication System.
Walter may be most recognized for writing and performing riddles as the Wizard for the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, a character he created in 1986. Walter promises to publish a book of the Wizard’s favorite riddles as soon as he can find time.
Walter is a member of AFSCME (American Federal, State, County and Municipal Employees Union), USITT (United States Institute of Theatre Technology), and ASFA (the American Society of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists).
