Dave Borron is the faculty scenic and lighting designer for the department. He has been teaching at the post secondary level for twenty-five years, 16 of which have been at SCSU. Originally from Iowa ( no Iowa jokes, please ) Dave holds a B.A. in Theatre and English from Buena Vista University, and an M.F.A. in Lighting Design and Tech Production from The University of Southern Mississippi.
During his career, Dave has done over 250 scenic, lighting, and sound designs for academic, professional, and community theatres. In addition, he has directed several plays for the department. His teaching assignments include Scenic Design, Lighting Design, Lighting Design II, Intro to Tech Production, Sound Design, Theatre Graphics, Scenic Painting, Stagecraft, and Stage Management. He also occasionally teaches Acting for Everyone, and Script Analysis.
In the summer months Dave usually participates in the department’s summer stock theatre, Theatre L’Homme Dieu, in Alexandria, MN, serving a variety of roles from artistic director to maintenance director.
In his spare time Dave enjoys designing and building furniture, and most outdoor activities.
His teaching philosophy is that more can be learned by doing than by passively listening. His classes tend to be very hands on with projects rather than exams. He also thoroughly enjoys his time with his students and treats them as equals whenever possible.
