Lanford Wilson's first commercially successful play. The Rimers of Eldritch is an intricately woven murder mystery, in which the victim and the motive are not revealed until the climatic moment of the piece. On the way to these discoveries we meet and get to know the residents of Eldritch, MO, a typical dying small midwestern community. Their catch phrase morality and penchant toward vicious gossip make this drama an expose of the close mindedness that permeates many small villages, and reveals that what is thought of as wrong and disgusting is often right and virtuous.
