TOEFL Test (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Computer-based iBT

A valuable tool for students who would like to study abroad in English, the TOEFL® (Test of English as a Foreign Language™) test opens more doors than any other academic English test. More than 6,000 institutions and agencies in 110 countries rely on TOEFL scores to select students with the English skills needed to succeed. The TOEFL test covers all facets of English proficiency, including a test of spoken English and grammar exercises. The TOEFL iBT is approximately four and one-half hours long and has four sections:

Reading--measures the ability to understand academic reading material.
Listening--measures the ability to understand spoken English as it is used in colleges and universities.
Speaking--measures the ability to speak English in an academic context.
Writing--measures the ability to write in a way that is appropriate for college and university course work.

Fees and Registration
The TOEFL iBT test fee varies by country. To find out what the fee is in your testing location, go to the Learners and Test Takers section of the TOEFL Web site, select "Register for the Test," and choose your test location.

There are specific test dates set aside for the TOEFL Test. Test dates are available on the TOEFL Web site at www.ets.org/toefl. Regular registration closes seven days prior to the test date (not including the day of the test). Late registration closes three days prior to the test date (not including the day of the test).

Candidates must register directly through the testing company, not the Atwood Testing Center. In order to take the TOEFL exam at the Atwood Testing Center, candidates can register in the following ways:

ONLINE
- Test takers with credit/debit cards can register online in the Learners and Test Takers section of the TOEFL Web site at www.ets.org/toefl.
PHONE
- Test takers with credit/debit cards can call the Prometric TOEFL Registration Center at 1-800-GO-TOEFL (1-800-468-6335) or TTY 1-800-529-3590
MAIL
- Complete the registration form located on the TOEFL Web site under the ‘registration’ tab. Refer to the instructions on the form.
