PRAXIS I  EXAMS (PPST – Pre-Professional Skills Test):  Computer-based and Paper-based

The Praxis Series assessments provide educational tests and other services that states use as part of their teaching licensing certification process. The Praxis I tests, Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST®), are designed to measure basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics.  Colleges and universities may use Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Tests to evaluate individuals for entry into teacher education programs. The assessments are generally taken early in your college career.

 
The reading, writing, and mathematics assessments are available in two formats: paper-based or computer-based. Colleges and universities may use Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Tests to evaluate individuals for entry into teacher education programs. Fees and Registration

  • Computer-based Praxis I  - The fee is $130 for all three tests combined or $80 per individual test
  • Paper-based Praxis I – The fee is $120 for all three tests or $40 per individual test.

The Praxis I computer-based exam is given during the majority of the Testing Center’s open hours.  You may register to test at the Atwood Testing Center the following ways with a credit card:

  • By calling the Testing Center directly at (320) 308-5456
  • By calling Prometric Candidate Services at 1-800-853-6773 or 1-800-529-3590 (TTY)

If you cannot pay by credit card, download and complete a copy of the CBT Authorization Voucher Request Form (PDF) for Praxis I computer based tests and mail with the appropriate fees to the address listed on the form.  Detailed instructions for this are on the Praxis Web site listed below.

You may also register with a check or money order by coming to the Testing Center during the regularly scheduled hours listed or by mailing your check to the Testing Center, indicating that you want to register for the test, and then calling to register over the phone. 

The Praxis I paper-based exam is given on specific national test dates:

  • Saturday, November 15, 2008
  • Saturday, January 10, 2009
  • Saturday, March 14, 2009
  • Saturday ,April 25, 2009
  • Saturday, July 25, 2009

For paper-based Praxis testing, candidates must register directly through the specific testing company, not the Atwood Testing Center.  In order to take the exam at the Atwood Testing Center, candidates can register with a credit card in the following way:

  • By going to the PRAXIS Web site below and registering on-line.

If you cannot pay by credit card, download and complete a copy of the Praxis Registration Form (PDF) for paper-based and mail with the appropriate fees to the address listed on the form.  Details for this process are located on the Praxis Web site listed below.
