Responding to the Needs of Students who are Returning from Deployment or Military Service: A Panel of SCSU Students Who are Veterans

Students who are veterans face a number of issues as they return to the university following deployment. Some of those include: age and maturity gap from the majority of students on campus, alienation, financial issues, priority change, lack of knowledge about how the system works, loss of their support system -- veterans see their platoon/unit as family, they have depended on each other and they miss each other. Over forty percent of troops currently deployed are national guard and reservists, some of these have returned and more will be returning to our communities and will need our support to reintegrate. In this session you will hear more about the issues they face as they return from SCSU students who are veterans.
