Recipient of the 2006 Lowell Hellervik Research Award
Dr. Aiping Yao is the recipient of the 2006 Lowell Hellervik Research award. Dr. Yao is a professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at St. Cloud State University. He arrived here in 1999 to assist Dr. Yi Zheng in research. In 2001 he became faculty and began his research of creating an ultra sound device that could examine diseased tissues with greater accuracy than the devices used today. He worked closely with the Mayo Clinic and other researchers on this project. After receiving the award Dr. Yao and five graduate students have worked further on developing an ultrasound data processing device and a lab here at St. Cloud State University. Presently, there is no such lab. Professor Yao hopes to create a working lab so that faculty and students can continue to perform the kind of research greatly benefits the medical community.
