Joanna Pucel '74 (Communications Studies Faculty)
Heart of the matter
Joanna Pucel is an award-winning volunteer for organizations that enhance cardiac care and heart health awareness. |
Joanna Pucel’s outreach efforts in the fight against heart disease are tied to her struggle with what is often thought of as “a man’s disease.” Pucel ’74 had triple-bypass surgery at age 37, after five years of undiagnosed symptoms. In 2006, Pucel lobbied Congress to pass the HEART for Women Act, a bill aimed at increasing research funding.
Pucel volunteers for organizations and efforts that target enhanced cardiac care and heart-disease awareness. Her work won her an award from the Minnesota Association of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. She is an associate professor of communication studies at St. Cloud State University.
