Location
The city of Fukuoka is located in Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan's islands. The city has a population of 1.3 million and boasts a very efficient public transportation system. Fukuoka is known for it's energetic, youthful energy with its 11 universities and 70,000 students. Beautiful mountains and the glimmering sea surround the city. top
Academic Program
Participating students must earn a total of 32 units over the course of two semesters. In addition to language and cultural studies, undergraduate courses are offered in the areas of theology, law, literature, commerce and economics. Post-graduate courses are also offered in law, business administration, literature, and economics. Japanese language courses are offered at all levels. All classes, with the exception of the language class, are taught in English. top
Living Accommodations
Students participating on this program will be housed in low-cost apartments at The International Division, located a short walking distance from the university. The cost is about 30,000 - 35,000 yen per month including utilities. Short-term homestays may also be arranged. top
Selection
The students must have completed at least one year of continuous study at SCSU. No prior knowledge of Japanese language required. An interview with the East Asian Studies Committee will be required for placement. top
Program Costs and Financial Aid
Students pay SCSU tuition fees, but all other applicable fees, including field trips, books, on campus insurance, and rent will be paid at the host university. Food, transportation, and other travel is the responsibility of the student. top
Possible JASSO Scholarship is available for eligible students.

Summer: Intensive Japanese Language Program

Program Description: The program lasts four weeks from early July to early August. Seinan Gakuin takes up to 30 students from around the world every summer at beginning, pre-intermediate, and intermediate language levels. Students will take a placement test on the first day to determine the appropriate level. In addition to language instruction and workshops, students will go on short field trips to places of interest, such as a local television station, local shrines and temples, a harbor cruise, and an all-night vigil to watch the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival race. A two-day field trip to Nagasaki is also included.
Accommodations:
Students will stay in the residence hall for international students, known as the I-House. Each room is single and comes with an air conditioner, bed, desk, chair, refrigerator, toilet and sink. The I-House also has common laundry facilities, kitchens, and showers. top
