Location
Seoul is not only the capital of Korea it is also the life beat of the country. With a population of 10.8 million, Seoul presents a well-rounded mix of all that Korea has to offer. The city contains a true mix of traditional culture and the new modern chic, shopping centers and internet cafes make way for ancient temples. While the city of Seoul is known for its vibrant night-life there is also a relaxed natural setting. The city is ringed by mountains and traversed by the Han River, parks are abundant in the busy city. top
Academic Program
Students from all majors are welcome to apply for this program. No prior language skills are required for this exchange program. Students have the option to take Korean language courses but it is not required. Classes are offered in both English and Korean. top
Living Accommodations
Exchange students will stay in university owned and operated residence halls. top
Selection
The student must have completed at least one year of continuous study at SCSU. The program is limited to three students per term. An interview will be required for placement. top
Program Costs and Financial Aid
Participating students will pay SCSU tuition, but all other applicable fees, including special course fees, international orientation fee, key deposits, books, and housing costs will be paid to the host university. Food, transportation (including air fare), and other travel is the responsibility of the student. top

* Applications are due the year before travel, i.e. traveling in Spring 2009? The application deadline is April 1, 2008. Priority will be given to applications received by the deadline. Applications will be accepted after the deadline on a space available basis.
A pre-departure orientation meeting for the program will be conducted the semester preceding the program. In addition there will be orientation meetings upon arrival at Southern Cross University. top
Summer: International Summer Camp
Program Description:
The International Summer Camp runs six weeks from early July to early August. A few day trips are included in the program. Past field trips have gone to a pottery factory, Everland amusement park, the traditional merchant district of Insadong and the Demilitarized Zone separating North and South Korea. There are also cultural workshops where students can experience Korean culture firsthand. Activities in the cultural workshops include calligraphy, traditional music, and Taekwondo. In addition, students will be paired with a "buddy" from Korea University who will help them with their Korean and show them around. Students also have the special privilege of attending lecture from distinguished government officials, such as the Kroean Ambassador to the US and foreign ministers.
Courses:
Students will be taught by faculty by both Korean and American professors. Students can take a maximum of nine credits for three courses. Classes are held Monday through Thursday. There is no prior language requirement, since all courses are taught in English. Course offerings include:
- Business - Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing
- Economics - Microeconomics and Macroeconomics
- Humanities - World History, Psychology, & East Asian Civilization
- Korean Studies - Philosophy, Mass Media, Culture, Modern History, Performing Arts, Literature, Politics, Law & Religion
- Sociology & Cultural Studies
- Law, Politics, & International Relations
- Science - Introductory Physics, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry & Geology
- Korean Language - Beginning, Intermediate, & Advanced
Housing:
Students will stay in the CJ International House (I-House) with other international students. Both double and single rooms are available. The I-House has air conditioning, a cafeteria with continental breakfast on weekdays, laundry facilities, music rooms, and a DVD lounge. Each dorm room includes a desk, wardrobe, blanket, pillow, phone and wireless internet service. The I-House is about a ten minute walk from the main campus.
Internship:
Before the program starts, students have the option of participating in an unpaid, four-week internship in a Korean business or government setting. After applying, students will be placed in an internship position that fits their interest and experience. Doing a short internship in Korea will give students a unique and valuable experience that will give them a competitive edge when entering the job market. top
