Location

Eichstätt is a small University town that attracts tourists and students from all over Germany. The Altmühl Nature Park, which surrounds the city is known for its cycling, canoeing and hiking. The city's large cathederal, castle, residence and other attractions bring in many tourists every year. Eichstätt sponsors festivals throughout the year, which are always within walking distance. The KU offers excellent opportunities to get involved in the community, whether it is playing soccer, organizing a community event or other activities which fit your interests. The city of Eichstätt is convenientally located between Nürnberg and Munich (München) in Bavaria. Ingolstadt, another large town is located just southeast and takes 25 minutes by train. top

Academic Program

Students take a three credit Independent Study course at SCSU before departure (January through Mid-March), capped by intensive German classes on campus before the March departure. Upon arrival in Eichstätt there are an additional two weeks of intensive German and orientation.

Students will earn 12-15 credits from courses taught by the KU Faculty. Courses include literature, civilization, grammar and history. top

Living Accommodations

Students studying in Eichstätt have dorm style housing organized through the KU-Eichstätt. Students have the opportunity to live with German and other international students. All housing is located within walking distance to the University. Students receive individual rooms and have access to shared kitchen, bathroom and laundry utilities. top

Selection

An accumulative GPA of 2.5 is required at the time of application and departure. Must have completed German 201 before participating. Freshmen must have two years of high school German and an overall high school GPA of 3.0. An interview will be required for placement. A committee of directors will review the application and make final decisions on selection of applicants. top

Program Costs and Financial Aid

Accessibility and affordability are our main goals in developing program costs for SCSU study aborad programs. As a participant on the program you will pay a program fee to SCSU that includes: round trip air transportation, international student ID card, two weeks of intensive German Class upon arrival, orientation in Germany, German government fee and housing deposit.

Tuition and fees for fifteen to eighteen credits will be added to your program costs. Non-SCSU students are charged the non-resident tuition rate.
Personal expenses such as lodging, food, books, laundry, additional travel and passport fees are not included in the program fee and will be paid on-site by the student.
And optional health insurance policy is also offered by the German government to all students studying at KU. This is approximately 50€ per month.

All regular grant and aid programs are available to SCSU students on this program. Financial Aid may be applied to your program cost once $1200 has been paid. The comprehensive fee is subject to change without notice. The program fee is never prorated nor is any part refundable. top

* Applications are due the year before travel, i.e. traveling in Spring 2009? The application deadline is April 1st, 2008. Priority will be given to applications received by the deadline. Applications will be accepted after the deadline on a space available basis.

A pre-departure orientation meeting for the program will be conducted the semester preceding the program. In addition there will be orientation meetings upon arrival at Southern Cross University. top
