Essay:
Hadrian's Wall was built to separate the Romans and the barbarians almost 2,000 years ago. The wall runs eighty miles
long. On May 4, 2004 my classmates and I walked three miles along this wall. It was a very memorable experience within
my summer abroad. We started at Housesteads Roman Fort and head off from there. The walk along the wall was not easy.
It was up and down steep hills on rocky land with the heavy wind against you. It was definitely a workout. I could
never image doing it everyday several times a day, especially in full armor like the Romans did. This was a great
experience because I learned a lot about the Romans this day. I was also given a chance to feel what it was like to be
in their shoes. I could never have lived like they did.
In the picture you can see the wall I walked along. You can also see that it is all up and down hill. Also the view of
no buildings or cities show how beautiful the scenery was.
This is how it was like though my whole adventure. Within three miles I never once saw a building or a city. It was a
very peaceful place and I feel this pictures shows this well.
This trip was a great link to my British history class. Instead of just sitting in a classroom, I loved how we got to
get out and actually see the history and where it all began. My time on the wall was a wonderful experience that I
will keep with me forever.
