Memories of Alnwick
Tammy Ehlers Whitmarsh ’87, Ladera Ranch, Calif.,
Alnwick 1995-96
Where do I begin such a wonderful life experience? I had
a close friend from high school that attended the program
the year before I did and shared so many wonderful things
about the program that I just had to experience it for myself.
I loved the idea of being able to travel anywhere in Europe
on my school breaks. I had three wonderful roommates whom
I studied, traveled and partied with. We enjoyed all that
castle life had to offer. When we weren’t traveling
to Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Austria or Italy we enjoyed
hanging out in Alnwick and going to the Squash Club. It
was a great time mingling with the local British people.
Some of my favorite memories are the field trips to London
to see plays and take in British Culture. One of my favorite
holidays was a ski trip to Innsbruck Austria and traveling
to Rome to hear the Pope give New Year’s Day Mass.
I will always treasure the memories I made at Alnwick Castle.
It’s always fun to share with people how I lived in
a Castle my Junior year of college and traveled in Europe.
While on a recent trip to Ireland, I was able to bring my
husband back to Alnwick. It was wonderful walking around
the town and seeing some of the old places I used to go
to while living there. We enjoyed staying at the Castle
and exploring the new SCSU program. It was fun seeing my
old room again. The Alnwick program was a wonderful life
experience that I will treasure forever.
