Memories of Alnwick
Nancee Magistad ’93, St. Paul, Minn., Alnwick 1991-92
Before I went on the Alnwick excursion, my parents bought
me an SCSU-Study Abroad sweatshirt (the one with the British
flag) which I treasured because I've always loved that flag!
About a month into the Alnwick program, I was in class with
the late Marjorie Deakin sitting in the most coveted seat,
the one near the radiator, squeezing a mug of hot chocolate
to keep warm. (It's true, castles can be cold.) Not long
after class began, my roommate Melissa Lenk said she smelled
something burning. I don't recall smelling the odor of burning
fabric but looking back, maybe that's because I was in shock....because
the smell was my coveted sweatshirt burning from sitting
too close to the radiator!
Long story short, I have fond memories of Marjorie's class
and a few burn holes in my sweatshirt which I still treasure
to this day….although I don't wear it much for fear
of being mistaken for a bag lady.
