Memories of Alnwick

The British Studies Program was a totally thrilling experience;
being in another country while still feeling at home, and
what a home it was.
Alnwick Castle was enchanting from beginning to end. We
arrived in the dead of night. As we exited the bus, one
by one each of us looked up in awe at the figures atop the
castle wall. The thrill continued to the finding of our
assigned rooms, discovering winding stairways, mistaking
the lawn as a football field, and venturing out into town.
There were so many highlights, the Halloween costume party,
our impromptu Christmas choir that was broadcast on the
local BBC radio, and being invited over for Christmas celebration
by Alnwick families, just to name a few.
Still today, more than 20 years later, when I catch a glimpse
of the Castle in a movie or show I feel the pride bubble
up in my chest.
