Memories of Alnwick
Pauline Hoover (in honor of Joe Hoover ’88, St.
Cloud, Alnwick 1986)
When my husband, Joe Hoover, retired in 1982 at age 63,
he enrolled at SCSU as a non-traditional student. He graduated
cum laude in 1988. While there he was encouraged by friends
of ours, Kent and Karen Frohrip, to apply for the international
studies program in Alnwick. He was accepted and we spent
the summer of 1986 in the castle dorm. While there we became
close friends of Marjorie Deakin
One of our highlights that year was Joe being asked to
lead the parade for the annual summer festival in the town
of Alnwick. I know Joe would have loved to attend some of
the upcoming events and meeting some old friends, but we
lost Joe to cancer just six weeks ago.
