Memories of Alnwick
Tana Jertson Hellwig ’94, Alnwick 1993
My Alnwick experience was filled with great memories: living
in another country (in a castle!) traveling to many places,
experiencing a variety of cultures, but the best part was
meeting so many wonderful people: the professors, the other
students, my home stay family and the locals in Alnwick.
But the most important person I met was the man who would
become my husband.
Tim and I found ourselves living in England again in 2003
– 10 years after we met on the program. We were living
in Colchester, Essex. We decided to take a trip up to Alnwick
to show our daughter, Claire, the castle where mommy and
daddy met. The funny thing was the trip happened to be over
my birthday. I turned 21 in Alnwick and I was back in Alnwick
for my 31st birthday. It was quite a different experience,
though no less memorable.
In August of this year, our son, Owen, was born. So now
we have two beautiful children and to think all this started
in Alnwick Castle – it will always hold a special
place in my heart.
