Educational counseling

Deals with such problems as study habits and test anxiety, choosing appropriate classes, dealing with professors. Students having trouble academically are encouraged to come to Counseling and Psychological Services to discuss their difficulties.

Career counseling

Choosing a career or a major is an important task for college students. It is one of the most vital and yet one of the most complex problems an individual encounters. Counseling and Psychological Services can be a useful resource in this sometimes difficult process. Interests, values, experiences and abilities are important factors in this decision. Counseling and Psychological Services has available assessment instruments such as Discover and other inventories which can be useful tools in this process. There is a library with information about various careers that can aid students. In addition, career counselors are available to meet individually to discuss career development.

Group counseling

Students have the opportunity to discuss topics and issues that concern them in a group setting with the assistance of a professional counselor. At different times throughout the academic year, groups are initiated around various themes (i.e., assertiveness, life planning, eating disorders, adult children of alcoholics, and other areas as requested).

Personal counseling

Anything that causes you to feel anxious or uncomfortable may affect your academic performance as well as your personal interaction with others. Talking with someone about those concerns can often be helpful. With a counselor you may explore freely, and in confidence, any feelings or problems that are important to you. The counseling process may help you to understand the sources of your anxieties and assist you in working through those feelings in a productive way.

Outreach counseling

Counselors are available to speak to classes, residence halls, and campus organizations about a variety of topics. Call the center for a full list of possible presentations.
