What is StarID and why are we transitioning to it?
StarID is the central MnSCU authentication system. You may already be using it -- if you use systems such as eTimesheet, for example, you'll already know your StarID. If not, don't worry, we'll walk you through how to get your StarID ready and activated.
We are transitioning to StarID as part of a broader MnSCU process of standardizing onto a single sign-on. By getting rid of our campus credentials, we'll be able to use systems across the MnSCU system without having to remember several independent user names and passwords. This will help students who take courses and credits across multiple MnSCU institutions, faculty and administrators who need to share data and systems across different institutions, and on-boarding efforts for new faculty, staff, and students.
ITS is working to make the process as easy and effortless as possible. For a very high-level overview of what your process will look like, please see below. We'll be adding more information over the course of the coming weeks and months, as well as sending every member of our campus an email with more information about their transition soon. In the meantime, feel free to visit our Common Questions page for more information, and bookmark this page for regular updates.
StarID for the Students, Faculty, and Staff
Students, faculty, and staff will have an opportunity to opt in to a few early adopter groups. These groups have very limited enrollment and will be used to help beta-test the conversion. These early adopter groups will be running in January and February, and you may email StarID@stcloudstate.edu if you are interested in participating.
All faculty who are not part of the early adopter groups they will be transitioned to StarID beginning at 5:00 p.m. on March 7, 2014. Details on how to manage your transition will be coming in the coming weeks.
What if I need help once I'm converted?
ITS has posted materials and resources designed to assist you in setting yourself up with StarID on the StarID website and the AskStCloudState knowledge base. In addition, we plan to have a very visible presence around campus during the first weeks after conversion. StarID "pioneers" will be roaming campus in t-shirts labeled "StarID. Ask me!" We'll also have satellite support locations positioned strategically around campus with pioneers trained to help you with any issues you have with the conversion. The process is likely to be complex, but ITS will be there to help you every step of the way. You can always call HuskyTech at 320-308-7000 for assistance as well.
