Theresa Estrem PhD, CCC-SLP



Dr. Estrem is on faculty in the Department of Communication Disorders at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota where she teaches, supervises graduate students, and does research, with an emphasis on Early childhood, autism and culturally/linguistically diverse children.

She has been a certified SLP for over 25 years. She attended the University of Minnesota graduate school where she received her Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 1984 and her doctorate degree Educational Psychology in 2003. Her interests in the field of communication disorders include screening, assessment, and intervention services to immigrant and language minority children with disabilities, and recruiting linguistically and culturally diverse students to the field of speech-language pathology.

She has presented on numerous occasions about intervention to develop the communication skills of children with autism, working with their families, and ongoing data monitoring. Her goals are to learn more about the prevalence of autism among immigrant and language minority families, their risk factors, parents’ perceptions and attitudes of communication intervention services, and factors that are barriers to or facilitators of best outcomes for them.
