Panel Title: Cross Cultural Collaboration to Achieve Systems Change in Early Intervention Services

Topic: Through pictures, stories, and personal experiences, we will share results from 12 cultural forums, including implications for change in the Early Intervention system. Forums explored perspectives of parents with young children in Latino, Somali, Sudanese, and other African communities on several topics, including child development, barriers to accessing services, and skills within the communities.

 
Goals and Objectives:

• The participants will be able to identify barriers to early intervention services for immigrant and refugee populations.
• The participants will be able to recognize that there are a variety of perspectives on development and parenting.
• The participants will be able to describe some qualities of the immigrant/refugee experience, and its impact on parenting.
• The participants will be able to discuss implications of this study for their own community.
