Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is an international professional organization founded in 1922 to promote the advancement and education of all children with special needs, including those who are gifted and talented. It is the most active and widely recognized association of special education professionals in the world. CEC is actively involved in lobbying local, state, provincial, and national legislation supporting the total rights of persons with exceptionalities. This group is not limited to special education majors, but open to any students who want to learn more about or work with students or individuals with disabilities.

Meetings

Executive Board Meetings are held Mondays at 4:00 p.m. in A237 of the Education Building. (No meetings held on the third Monday of month.) Open Meetings are the first Monday of every month at 4:00 p.m. in room A235 of the Education Building.

Special Projects

CEC members hold an annual sweatshirt sale to raise money for special projects in the Special Education Department.

Other

At each Open Meeting CEC will feature a guest speaker on different topics related to Special Education.
