Graduate Certificate in LD (Learning Disabilities)
The LD Graduate Certificate allows candidates to earn a certificate and complete the requirements for LD licensure in Minnesota.
Prerequisites for all candidates for the LD Certificate program include special education core courses or their equivalent from an accredited university: SPED 503 (Special Education Foundations), SPED 505 (Behavior Theories and Practices), SPED 511 (Special Education Procedural Safeguards), SPED 515 (Assistive Technology for Students with Special Needs), SPED 519 (Teaching Methods in Special Education), and SPED 531 (Collaboration Skills and Transition).
Prerequisites for candidates not holding a valid Minnesota teaching license include courses related to general education (as well as the courses listed above): SPED 518 (General Education Literacy Instruction), SPED 513 (Mathematics Instruction for Students with Special Needs), SPED 545 (Social and Natural Sciences Instruction for SPED), SPED 338, 339, and 455 (general education and special education field experiences), HLTH 505 (Mood Modifying Substances), HURL 497-498 (Human Relations and Teaching), CEEP 262 (Human Growth and Development), and CEEP 361 (Educational Psychology).
LD Certificate: The courses for the LD certificate are SPED 521 (Characteristics of LD & EBD), SPED 516 (Individualized Assessment in Special Education), SPED 646 (Learning Disabilities Methods), SPED 680 (LD Practicum I), and SPED 681 (LD Practicum II). The latter three courses (SPED 646, SPED 680 and SPED 681) must be taken at St. Cloud State.
