Tracy E. Ore is an associate professor of Sociology and Director of the Applied
Sociology Program at Saint Cloud State University. She received her Ph.D. in
sociology from the University of Michigan. Her teaching areas include race and
ethnicity, social inequality, democracy and citizenship, the ethics of sociological
practice, social movements, and the politics of food. Her most recent text is The
Social Construction of Difference and Inequality: Race, Class, Gender and
Sexuality (third edition), published by McGraw-Hill. She is currently working on a
text on racial and ethnic oppression in the United States, due out in 2007. In
addition to this work, professor Ore does research in the areas of sustainable
agriculture, technology and the scholarship of teaching and learning, race and
ethnicity, oppression and inequality, and the development of effective teaching
pedagogy. She serves as a consultant for multicultural education and curriculum to
a variety of organizations and agencies and conducts workshops and training
related to issues of inequality. She is an active member of the American
Sociological Association, the Midwest Sociological Society, and the Sociologists for
Women in Society.
