Organization: Software Diversified Services (SDS)
New Account Sales Executive
Job History and Responsibilities:
SDS is a leading provider of enterprise software to over 1,500 users worldwide. My position as Sales Executive for half the United States involves many responsibilities, including selling and protecting SDS’ products consisting of Vital Signs VisionNet IP (VIP) & other VSV New Products as they become available. I attend trade shows and participate in onsite visits with prospective customers to help generate sales.
My work history starting in 1997 includes three months as a Human Resources Intern with Alliance Health Care (AHC), one of the largest home care agencies in Minnesota. In Human Resources I developed such skills as interviewing, letter writing and recruiting qualified applicants. After my internship with AHC, I was hired on full-time and worked as Network Development Coordinator in AHC's Marketing Department. In that role my responsibilities included ad design, public speaking, sales, recruitment and customer satisfaction. After AHC, I was hired as Territory Manager for many different areas of the United States at Rexton, Inc. (a subsidiary of Siemens). This position included generating sales through customer contact over the phone, building strong and healthy relationships with customers, and assisting in various customer service related functions. I also worked as an Outside Sales Representative who provided training and support for our customers in their offices.
How I use sociology in my job:
I use sociology in my work in a variety of ways. Understanding work groups and team dynamics helps me to serve my customers. My knowledge of organizational structure helps me to identify those people with whom I most need to talk in order to serve my customers successfully. Diversity issues that I learned about in sociology guide me in dealing with various multicultural groups with whom I associate each day. Every day I also use skills that I developed in sociology and throughout my college education, including comprehension skills, writing and communication skills, organizing abilities and task orientation.
