I received my BA in sociology from SCSU in the fall of 2011. Upon completing the program, I was eager to continue my work and expand my knowledge in the field. Shorty after graduating, I moved to Binghamton, New York to work towards a PhD in sociology at SUNY Binghamton.
This is my first semester at SUNY Binghamton, and I have already learned a great deal. I have engaged in world-system analysis, examined theories on persistent social inequalities, and looked at forms of labor movement and social protest. Tying these together, I would like to conduct future work on social movement mobilization and waves of protest in a way that incorporates a global analysis.
Although I have learned much at SUNY Binghamton, the knowledge I gained from my experience in the SCSU sociology program has been imperative for my success. This knowledge has been based on learning social theory, working on research papers and projects, conducting class discussions, and working with professors. As I advance in the field of sociology, I will continue to acknowledge my roots at SCSU.
