Beth Berila

Beth Berila directs the Women's Studies Program at SCSU.  Her research and teaching interests include Feminist Theory, Gender and Women’s Studies, LGBT/Queer Studies studies, Popular Culture, Feminist Pedagogy, Environmental Justice, and Community Based Arts. Her article, “Toxic Bodies? ACT UP’s Disruption of the Heteronormative Landscape of the Nation” appeared in the anthology, New Perspectives on Environmental Justice: Gender, Sexuality, and Activism, edited by Rachel Stein, (Rutgers University Press, 2004). She recently published an article analyzing the portrayals of gender dynamics in the television series, The West Wing, and another examining the political implications of race, class, gender, and sexual identity issues in Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Her other articles have appeared in the journals MELUS, Feminist Teacher, and in various Feminist anthologies.
