Student Employment Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to reward a student for his/her achievement(s) as an outstanding student employee. It is also to promote the value of a student employment experience, as employers actually look for students who have had a part time job while going to school. If you don’t have an exciting experience to write about now, you can apply for this scholarship next year!

How to Apply

It’s simple. Read the three topics listed below. Decide which category you would like to write about. Describe the situation in no more than a two page essay. Include the following information on an additional page attached to your essay:

Name:

E-mail:

Phone #:

Year in School:

Major:

Name, e-mail & phone # of the supervisor from the experience that you write about (supervisors may be contacted as references).

E-mail applications to scsustudentjobs@stcloudstate.edu. The winner will be announced no later than November 13. The decision committee will base their decision on:

* Most unique, job related experience

* Best written (format, grammatical)

* Relevant to topic

* How the experience will be applied to a future role

*Note: Students will only be considered for one written essay. Writing more than one will not improve your chances of being considered and the committee will only read one.

“I’m Unprecedented & Unique”    SES Scholarship

Describe a unique student employment position you held. This would be a time when you took a position completely out of your field of study or expertise and were exposed to something completely new just for the sake of getting a well-rounded experience.

AND

Describe how this experience shaped your skills base and your ability to succeed & thrive in future roles.

“I’m an Independent Thinker” SES Scholarship

Describe a student employment experience where you held a position that was completely project-based or an experience where the job description was clear, but the responsibilities and daily activities were up to you to plan. Where did you go with it? How is the organization a better place because of your accomplishments? Or, describe a time when you took it upon yourself to do something completely out of your job description that demonstrated your ability to be independent, think out of the box or go out of your way to make something happen.

AND

Describe how this experience shaped your skills base and your ability to succeed & thrive in future roles.

“I’m an Overachiever” SES Scholarship Award

Describe a time when you took on WAY too much! An example would be a time where you were employed as a student, taking 18 credits, volunteering, taking dance lessons & spin class all at the same time, while still managing to have a social life. This would be a time where you spread yourself a little thin, but managed to succeed anyway! Prove that you were successful and why you didn’t give up.

AND

Describe how this experience shaped your skills base and your ability to succeed & thrive in future roles.
