Transfer Student Scholarships
St. Cloud State University seeks to reward high achieving students for their academic successes through various scholarship opportunities.
As part of your application for admission, you are also applying for merit scholarships.
Students will be automatically be considered for these scholarships by applying for admission prior to:
Fall Semester: March 15
Spring Semester: October 15
Transfer Student Scholarships
Transfer students should demonstrate achievement with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have at least 40 transferrable credits prior to enrollment to be strong candidates for scholarships. All St. Cloud State University transfer students are automatically considered for the academic scholarships and thus there is no application to complete. All transfer students must be admitted to the University by the following deadlines to be considered for automatic scholarships.
Cultural Diversity Scholarships
New students who contribute to the cultural diversity at St. Cloud State University will be automatically considered for these awards. To be eligible, students should demonstrate strong academic achievement through their curriculum, academic record and standardized test scores. In order to be considered for a cultural diversity scholarship, students must be admitted prior to:
Non-Resident Tuition Scholarships
Non-Resident Tuition Scholarships are awarded to transfer students who do not otherwise qualify for in-state or reciprocity tuition. Recipients pay the equivalent of in-state tuition. Applicants must provide evidence of a 3.0 GPA in all college work (minimum 24 transferrable credits) to qualify. All students who meet the above requirements will be automatically awarded the Non-Resident Tuition Scholarship on an on-going basis. There is no application deadline.
Foundation-Sponsored Scholarships
SCSU also offers scholarships provided by friends and alumni of the University. These require additional information, an essay and an activites resume.

Alumni Scholarship
- Awarded to select new transfer students who are legacy students (dependent upon SCSU alumni)
- Strong academic record
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Scholarship
- Must be current members of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society
- Exemplary leadership qualities
- Strong academic record
Second Generation Scholarship for the Children of SCSU Alumni
- Must be a dependent child of SCSU alumni
- Enroll full time at SCSU
- Entering SCSU as an undergraduate for the first time as a transfer student with minimum GPA of 2.5
Charles and Laurel Brainard Scholarship
- Student must have financial need and demonstrate leadership potential
- Incoming student must have a good academic record
- Must be full-time students
Dudley and Merl Brainard Scholarship
- Incoming student with a good academic record
- Student must have financial need and demonstrate leadership potential
Diana and Robert Carter Scholarship for Engineering or Business Students
- Intended for incoming students intending to major in engineering or business
- Enroll full time at SCSU
- Preference given to female students
Willmar Poultry Company Scholarship
- Incoming student with strong academic record who is an employee or dependent of an employee of Willmar Poultry
- Demonstrated financial need
- Clear vision how a college education will benefit the student and their community
Legacy Tuition Waiver
- Available for students from non-reciprocity states who are not otherwise receiving in-state tuition rates
- Students whose parent, step-parent or adopted parent graduated from SCSU are eligible for this award, which enables recipients to pay the equivalent of in-state tuition
Vette Family Scholarship
- New, incoming student who graduated from White Bear Lake High School (MN) intending to pursue a degree or career in police work or education
- Involved in community or school activiites demonstrating leadership or volunteerism
- Minimum high school GPA of 3.0
- Preference given to students with financial need
