Community Reminders

1. Safety and Security Awareness
a. Fire evacuation plans and tornado shelter areas: Treat every fire alarm and tornado siren seriously. Evacuate the building EVERY time the fire alarm sounds. It’s also vital to act quickly in tornado warnings. Top floor residents should seek shelter on lower floors in the case of a tornado. Generally, bathrooms and basement areas away from windows are safe shelter areas.
b. Personal safety: Remember to keep your room door locked at all times whether you leave for only a few minutes or are sleeping in your room. Your personal safety and protecting your belongings from potential theft is always worth the small amount of time or hassle of carrying your keys!

2. Community Care - Guests, Vandalism, and Respect Issues
The end of the year requires as much respect and personal responsibility for your actions and those of your guests, as does any other time. Do your part to contribute positively to your community by respecting the building and its residents. Often times guests are not as committed to your community as you are, thus you are responsible to prevent noise, vandalism or other policy violations in which they are involved. Help clean up litter, confront potential guest problems, and support your local RA, ACA, GMW and fellow residents.

FYI - There will always be a follow up on violations - even at the end of the year. Sanctions carry over into the next year. University sanctions may even transfer with those students changing schools, so please protect your integrity by ending the year with the same positive and responsible behavior with which you began the year.

Congratulations Dorm Graduates!

Newsflash
The student organization, Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), wanted to share this information with residents about the rising danger of IDENTITY THEFT:
Identity theft is now the number one crime in the United States, and college students are the most likely to be victimized. Four out of five victims of identity theft reported that they had no idea how the thief obtained their personal data. 50% of all identity theft cases are committed by people they know, and 90% are committed offline, mostly from your garbage or mail. Reports estimate that 500,000 to 700,000 people were victims of identity theft last year. On average it takes about two years for a victim of identity theft to repair their financial reputation. If you are a victim of identity theft the first step is to contact a credit bureau and review your credit reports. Three credit bureaus are TransUnion, Experian and Equifax. You should also check your credit report once every month. Some common ways to protect yourself from identity theft are to reduce the amount of information you carry in your wallet. Never carry your social security card with you. Also, don’t share your password and PIN numbers with anyone, and finally don’t give your social security number to anyone unless legally required to do so.
