Desk & Computer Lab Assistants
Positions as desk assistants, administrative assistants, computer lab assistants and student custodians are available in the Residential Life Department for students who have been approved for work-study through the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid. Students must meet the academic guidelines established by Financial Aid. Work-study employees typically work 15-20 hours per week. Hours are scheduled between 6:00 a.m. and midnight. Daytime hours are available but student employees must also be available to work a percentage of their hours are on weekends, evenings and early mornings.

Night Security
Night Security staff are responsible for the overall safety of the residence hall and its students from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. Night Security staff work approximately two nights a week and approximately 4-5 weekends per semester. Night security members either work from 7 p.m.-11 p.m. or 12:00 a.m.-6 a.m. They are responsible for checking students into the building after 7 p.m. while fostering a welcoming environment. They also enforce residence hall and university policies while on duty. Our main hiring process for fall openings occurs the preceding spring. Minimum Qualifications:
- 1 semester SCSU residence hall living experience
- 2.5 cumulative GPA required at the time of application and maintained at hire
- 2.5 semester GPA is also required
- 24 credits completed at the time of application or by the end of spring semester for fall semester openings
Community Advisors (CA's)
Each floor, entryway, or house of the residence halls has an upper-class student who is responsible for the overall floor environment. CAs are also responsible for implementing social and educational programs for the students on the floor. CAs are assigned “duty nights” in which they remain in the hall and are available to students. Minimum Qualifications:
- Full-time student status, enrolled in no less that 12 and no more than 17 credits per semester
- Minimum of 24 credits completed prior to start date
- Maintain cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
- Commitment to serving a full academic year in the CA role
- Good University standing - not on University conduct or academic probation
- Clear a criminal background check and meet employment eligibility requirements
- Previous leadership experience or campus involvement desired
- Two semesters of on-campus residence hall living experience preferred
Graduate Assistant Director (GAD)
Each residence hall has a student assistant director who has at least one year of experience as a community advisor (CA) or in some halls, are working on their master's degree. The GAD helps with the Night Security team and assists the RHD with hall management. They are experienced students who are especially good at answering questions and concerns about the halls and the university. Minimum Qualifications:
- 2.5 GPA required, 2.75 GPA preferred
- Two semesters CA experience preferred, one semester required
- Full time student status maintained per semester as AD
- Minimum 12 credits, maximum of 17 credits per semester;
- Not more than 8 credits (or equivalent time) per semester can be in an internship, field experience or student teaching
Summer Conference Crew
During the summer, the SCSU residence halls house summer camps/conferences. To prepare and serve these groups, we hire returning SCSU students as cleaners, movers, night security, and desk receptionists. Our main hiring process for fall openings occurs the preceding spring.
