MN Residency (for in-state Tuition Purposes)
Students may prove their eligibility for in-state tuition by demonstrating domicile in Minnesota. Students have the burden of proving domicile for in-state tuition purposes.
Definition: A domicile is a person's true, fixed and permanent living place. Domicile is the place to which a person intends to return after temporary absences. A person may have only one domicile at a time.
Do I qualify for resident tuition? To determine if you qualify for MN resident tuition, download the Resident Tuition Classification Request (pdf) form and review the conditions on the left side. If you meet one of the conditions, fill out the application and submit it (along with the proper documentation) to the Records and Registration Office.
How do I apply for instate tuition? Please download the Resident Tuition Classification Request (pdf) and return it to the Office of Records & Registration, 118 Administrative Services Building, 720 Fourth Avenue South, St. Cloud, MN 56301-4498. Please include appropriate documentation as indicated on the request form.
