Teaching Licensure

BEFORE PROCEEDING...
StopIt is highly recommended that you have evidence of graduation and that you have met ALL Minnesota state testing requirements prior to applying online for licensure. Once the fee is submitted, you have 60 days to obtain recommendation from SCSU. Students who apply too early will be in jeopardy of losing their processing fee submitted to MDE.

Instructions for first time full time Minnesota license

After submitting your teaching licensure application to the MN Department of Education via the online process, please send materials directly to the Office of Records and Registration, AS-118 for institutional endorsement. Any partial or incomplete submission will be returned to the applicant.

  1. Go to the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) web site at http://education.state.mn.us
  2. Click on Teacher Support and then choose Educator Licensing.
  3. Under Section Links choose Apply for or Renew Your License.
  4. Scroll down and select CLICK HERE TO APPLY FOR FIRST TIME LICENSE.
  5. You are now ready to set up your USER ID and a Password. Scroll down to the NEW USER? section and “If you do not have a USER ID and PASSWORD click here”. Again, this is for a first time full time license application.
  6. MDE Web Site Profile. You will enter the user information. First name, last name, full name, etc.
  7. From this point, you will follow the step-by-step instructions from the Minnesota Department of Education. You will move from screen to screen upon submittal of information. If problems, contact MDE at 651-582-8691.
  8. Upon completion of the online application, the Department of Education will have received your application, your conduct review statement, and your fees. You have sixty (60) days from this point to submit your supplemental materials which include the university’s recommendation, MDE checklist, your fingerprint card.

The following information is what you must submit to the Office of Records and Registration, AS-118 at St. Cloud State University:

  1. License Application Cover Page – This form is downloaded via the online application process and will indicate the applicant information required by the Minnesota Department of Education.
  2. Verification of Completion of a State-Approved Licensure Program Form – This form is downloaded via the online application process and will indicate the applicant’s name, address, date of birth, phone number and a processing number. BE SURE TO COMPLETE THE TOP PORTION OF THIS VERIFICATION FORM. The Certifying Officer in the Office of Records and Registration will finalize this form.
  3. Fingerprint Card - It must be a Minnesota Department of Education fingerprint card. Make sure all the required personal information and your signature has been provided. To be fingerprinted, you may go to the Public Safety Department located on campus or to any local law enforcement agency.

Applicants should verify that all financial obligations have been cleared at SCSU. If there are any financial obligations to the university your application could be delayed until everything has been cleared.
