Psychology Annual Awards

The Psychology Department offers three annual awards:

  • The Graduate School Preparation Award: Fall
  • The Annual Merit Award for Psychology Majors: Spring
  • The Mary Boltuck Award for Psi Chi Students accepted into a psychology graduate program: Spring

Graduate School Preparation Award

Purpose

  • To recognize academic and professional achievement of a psychology major.
  • To reimburse student for the cost of taking the Graduate Record Exam.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Declared psychology major
  • Minimum G.P.A. of 3.5 for psychology and overall
  • Have taken or will take the GRE by June 30, 2012

Selection of recipient(s)

  • Applicants must submit all relevant documentation by Oct 28, 2011.
  • Recommendations of finalists will be made by the Psychology Department’s Student Issues Committee subject to Department review and approval.
  • Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of their
    • grade point average,
    • involvement with extracurricular activities in the department,
    • references, &
    • statement regarding their goals in psychology.

Selection will occur by Nov. 1.

Method of Payment

Recipient(s) will receive $160 transferred directly from the Psychology Foundation Account.  The reimbursement will require an original receipt from ETS.

The psychology faculty reserves the right to cancel this scholarship at any time if any of the conditions of this application have not been adequately satisfied.

Psychology Major Annual Merit Award

Purpose

  • To recognize high academic and professional goals in a St. Cloud State University psychology major.
  • To partially defray expenses for a meritorious student.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Declared psychology major
  • Minimum G.P.A. of 3.5 for psychology and overall
  • Must be a member of Psi Chi.

Selection of recipient(s)

  • Applicants must submit all relevant documentation by March 16, 2012.
  • The final candidate(s) will be selected by the Psychology Department’s Student Issues Committee. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of their
  • grade point average,
  • involvement with extracurricular activities in the department, and
  • statement regarding their goals in psychology.

Selection will occur by April 9, 2012.

Method of Payment

Recipient(s) will receive $500 transferred directly from the Psychology Foundation Account.

The Mary Boltuck Award

Purpose of the Merit Award

  1. To award a student who has high aptitude for graduate school and who has been accepted in a Psychology graduate program.
  2. To help pay for psychology graduate program application fees.

Mary Boltuck

Mary Boltuck was a member of the SCSU psychology faculty for 27 years. She  advised Psi Chi/Psychology Club for more than 10 years.  Her keen interest in Psi Chi never wavered and today she is demonstrating that she still has a heart for Psi Chi/Psychology Club. Professor Boltuck still lives in St. Cloud, MN.

Selection of Recipient

  • Students must submit a complete application by April 20, 2012.
  • Psychology department faculty will have two weeks to review the applicants.
  • The merit award selection committee will be the department of the whole.
  • The recipient will be notified by May 4, 2012 .

Evaluation Criteria

The recipient will be a SCSU student who:

  • Is, and has been, a member of Psi Chi, the national honor society for psychology majors for at least one full semester.
  • Has been accepted to a graduate program in psychology.
  • When more than one student qualifies, the award recipient will be selected by the psychology faculty based upon the student's overall record including letters of recommendation. Two letters should be from SCSU psychology faculty. Other relevant recommendations will be accepted.

Methods of payment

$150.00 will be transferred directly from Mary Boltuck foundation account to the merit award recipient.
