Advanced Program in Technology and Science

Program Information

The 2023 camp will be a residential camp as long as we can conduct it safely and have the funding.

Purpose

This is a special program for high ability, high potential 9th, 10th and 11th grade students who are seriously interested in a future in technology, science, mathematics or engineering.

Program Activities

The  three-week residential program will focus on scientific research for students from historically underrepresented groups and expose them to career options in technology. They will meet positive role models in these fields. Sessions will encourage professional mentor/mentee relationships. Students of color and female students are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility

Students currently in 9th, 10th and 11th grade. No previous experience with computers or science is required. All eligible students are encouraged to apply.

Selection Criteria

1. Priority given to members of groups underrepresented in science fields 
2. Willingness to learn and cooperate
3. Students in 9th, 10th or 11th grades as of September 2022
4. The program will seek ethnic, gender, regional, and social diversity among participants. 
5. Timeliness of application
6. Teacher Recommendation

Cost

The cost of this camp is $3,000.00.  This covers all expenses related to tuition, academic fees, books and campus room and board. However, normal out-of-pocket living expenses for notebooks, calculators, snacks, laundry, recreation and other incidentals should be anticipated. All students applying to this program must pay a $10.00 non-refundable application fee. Limited financial aid to cover these living expenses is available to students in need.

For those who qualify, the camp fee may be based on a sliding scale fee using the parent's income. A copy of tax return (Form 1040 U.S. Individual Income Tax Return 2021 or 2022), which shows the adjusted gross income figure, must be submitted for income verification along with the application. Students from Minnesota may qualify for a scholarship from the Minnesota Office of Higher Education. We would need the same information as listed above. However, if the applicant qualifies for Free/Reduced Lunch, they can submit this documentation verifying eligibility in lieu of the tax return.

Payment and Cancellation Policy

Camp payments are due with the return of the acceptance packet. Refunds of payments will be given only if cancellations are made two weeks prior to program date.
