Strategic Priority I. Academic Distinction (approved 4/29/04)

KPI A1: Students will demonstrate competency in SCSU’s five core values as well as an understanding of diverse and global perspectives; departments/programs will establish baselines and determine targets, develop plans for improvement, and report improvement of these competencies.

KPI B/C/F1: Students will demonstrate discipline specific competency including basic knowledge and connection between theory and practice; departments/programs will establish baselines and determine targets, develop plans for improvement, and report improvement of these competencies.

KPI D/E1: The University through its units will increase opportunities for students to participate in a rich learning environment that provides for interaction, collaboration with faculty through scholarly and creative work; departments/programs will establish baselines and determine targets, develop plans for improvement, and report improvement in these opportunities.

Strategic Priority II. Service Community (approved 4/29/04)

KPI A1: SCSU will increase its current freshman-to-sophomore year retention rate of 71% (full-time and part-time) to 78.5% over the next 5 years (1.5% annually), effective with the fall 2004 New Entering Freshmen cohort. This, in turn, will enhance SCSU's 4, 5, and 6 year graduation rates.

KPI B1: The University will assess student satisfaction using several national and locally produced instruments in order to establish baselines and to locate and correct problem areas.

Strategic Priority III. University-Community Relations (approved 4/29/04)

KPI A1: The University will improve conflict resolution on campus so that conflict is addressed in a pro-active and positive manner and so that the campus climate is supportive and nurturing for all university students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

KPI A2: The University will increase by 5% a year the number of employees who are satisfied with the quality and level of communication on campus.

KPI B1: The University will increase by 5% a year the amount of external community support for and participation in university activities and programs

KPI B2: The University will increase by 5% a year the amount of support for the external community by increasing the number of external community contacts through outreach, partnerships, collaborations, community-based research, service learning, and volunteer work.

Strategic Priority IV. Technology (approved 4/30/04)

KPI C1: The University will determine current and future technical support needs in order to provide the necessary technical support for faculty, staff, and students.

KPI D1: The University will determine/assess what services are currently available, what new services need to be developed and how services can be integrated into SCSU’s environment in order to meet the needs of faculty, staff, students, and administrators.

Strategic Priority V. Diversity and Social Justice (approved 4/30/04)

KPI A1: The University will increase the recruitment, retention, and graduation rates for students in protected classes (students of color, women, GLBT, students with disabilities, etc.) by ensuring an adequate level of resources for recruitment and retention as well as maintaining quality academic and social support services for ensuring student success.

KPI A2: The University will increase the recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and administrators who are members of protected classes (people of color, women, GLBT, and people with disabilities, etc.) by ensuring proportional increases in the services, materials, and benefits for hiring, retention, and promotion; by decreasing disparities in salaries, benefits/support, and promotion; and by decreasing the proportion of turnover of faculty, administrators, and staff in protected classes in any given planning period.

KPI B1: To improve the campus cultural climate, the Institution will develop strategies to change the structures, policies, procedures, and practices that impede the attainment of respect and equality on campus. In order to eliminate barriers, implementation of recommendations for change will include establishing equitable management of financial and other resources for this purpose.

KPI B2: The Institution will improve the campus cultural climate by providing meaningful diversity education for the entire campus as well as support for curricula that include diverse perspectives.
