ANNOUNCEMENT: Change in Praxis Series Tests!
Beginning September 1, 2010, the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Exams (MTLE) will replace the previous Praxis exams. Pearson Evaluation Systems will be the statewide test provider; assessing the basic skills, pedagogical, and content area knowledge of Minnesota P –12 teacher candidates. The MTLE’s will be fully aligned with state Board of Teaching rules and standards of effective practice, and will contain the new reading and technology standards.
Note: Teacher candidates have until August 31, 2010 to take and pass the Praxis I and II exam.Beginning September 1, 2010 all teacher candidates will need to take the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Exam (MTLE) Basic skills, Pedagogical, and content area exams offered through Pearson Evaluation System.
- For Teacher Candidates graduating prior to September 1, 2010
- Passing scores from PPST (Praxis I) will be recognized until December 31, 2015.
- Passing scores from Content and Pedagogy (PLT) tests will be recognized until August 31, 2012.
- If you do not pass the Praxis exam by August 31, 2010, you will have to take the new MTLE, which may contain standards not included in your preparation. The new standards will not count against candidates between September 1, 2010 and February 1, 2012. If you have not passed the licensure exam by February 1, 2012 you will be held to the new standards.
- For Teacher Candidates who will graduate between September 1, 2010 and August 31, 2012
- Prior to September 1, 2010, candidates will take the Praxis I and II (PPST, PLT and Content exams). A passing score on the Praxis tests will be accepted until December 31, 2015.
- Beginning September 1, 2010 candidates will take the MTLE basic skills, content and pedagogy tests.
- New early childhood and K-6 reading standards will not be factored into the passing scores until February 1, 2012.
- New content reading and technology standards will not be factored into the passing scores until August 31, 2012.
- K-6 candidates will not be required to take the specialty area test. While it is strongly encouraged, it is optional for licensure.
- It is critical for candidates to apply for licensure by August 31, 2012. Beginning on September 1, 2012 candidates will be held to the new licensure standards and testing requirements.
- For Teacher Candidates being admitted into a teacher preparation program and beginning coursework on or after September 1, 2010
- Prior to September 1, 2010, candidates may take the ETS Praxis I (PPST). Passing scores on these basic skills tests will be accepted until December 31, 2015.
- Beginning September 1, 2010, candidates will be required to take the MTLE Basic Skills Test. Passing scores will be accepted beginning September 1, 2010.
- Candidates must take the new MTLE content knowledge and pedagogy exams.
- While specialty areas will no longer be a requirement for K-6 candidates, it may be beneficial for candidates to earn an endorsement along with the stand-alone K-6 license.
