Anne Mahlum '02 is using running to make the world a better place.
Mahlum, who earned St. Cloud State bachelor’s degrees in political science and mass communications, is founder and CEO of Back on My Feet, a non-profit organization that builds self-sufficiency within homeless and other underserved populations.
Back on My Feet first engages clients in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem.
Mahlum launched Back on My Feet in Philadelphia in 2007, based on her own personal experience using running as a stress-reliever.
The organization has expanded to nearly 10 cities, has a national staff of more than 40 people and thousands of volunteers.
Mahlum does public speaking. She has been featured in national publications, such as the Wall Street Journal, and appeared on television networks, including MTV.
She is an avid runner with 10 marathons to her credit. Her goal is to run a marathon on every continent.
Originally from Bismarck, N.D., Mahlum lives in New York City. In 2003, she completed her master’s degree in political communications at American University.
