Robert C. Johnson
Dream young, dream big
Robert C. Johnson's math, science and technology summer camps help students of color consider pursuing a college education.
For more than 20 years Robert C. Johnson’s Math-Science-Computer Camps have delivered life-altering experiences to more than 2,500 young people.
The camps serve demographic groups which have shied away from those fields.
Johnson's efforts have created a pipeline to St. Cloud State from communities that traditionally have had lower rates of participation in higher education.
Johnson was recently honored with a Minnesota Minority Education Partnership Award for promoting success for students of color.
As the principal investigator of the Center for Access and Opportunity, Johnson has collaborated with officials at St. Cloud Technical and Community College and St. Cloud Area School District 742 to address academic underachievement, low high school graduation rates and poor college participation of underrepresented students.
Johnson founded the Pipeline Camps in 1987, two years after joining the St. Cloud State faculty.
He is the former chair of the Ethnic Studies Department.
