Ian Luhm, meteorology and mass communication student, works the green screen at WDIO-TV studios in Duluth.
Ian Luhm is pulling double duty.
The meteorology major and mass communications minor moonlights weekends as an on-air meteorologist for WDIO-TV in his hometown of Duluth.
Before his job in Duluth, Luhm earned on-air experience at UTVS, St. Cloud State's student-run station viewed on Charter cable channel 21 in the St. Cloud area.
"I never would have gotten the job had it not been for UTVS," Luhn said. "I got the basics of being on camera. Without that, people can get shell-shocked."
A former hockey player, Luhm officiates youth hockey games in Duluth. Some days he’ll officiate games in the early afternoon and then present the weather during the 6 and 10 p.m. news shows.
"I received critique emails from viewers and my officiating taught me not to take it personally," he said.
