Jeff Passolt ’81 anchors the news for KMSP-TV in Minneapolis-St. Paul. The National Television Academy’s Upper Midwest Chapter honored Passolt with Emmy awards as best news anchor in 1997, 2004 and 2006.
For more than three decades, Passolt has covered a wide range of events, including the Olympics, Super Bowls, World Series and White House events. Covering the Twins World Series championship in 1987 remains one of his fondest memories.
"Everyone in Minnesota was in a sort of euphoria that lasted well after they won and nothing else seemed to matter," Passolt said.
Passolt gained broadcast experience on UTVS-TV, St. Cloud State University’s student-run station. The journalism major and four-year hockey player was named a Brainard Scholar as an exceptional student-athlete. He still holds one of the individual records from the University's Division II hockey era.
His connection to the University remains strong. He speaks to campus groups such as the Society of Professional Journalists. He emcees important events, such as the Day with the Stanley Cup celebration that featured Bret Hedican and Matt Cullen, members of the 2006 NHL champion Carolina Hurricanes.
The St. Louis Park native is active in the community, serving as honorary chair for America’s Walk for Diabetes and the Diabetes gala. He serves on the Board of the University of Minnesota Diabetes Research Center and has hosted the Animal Humane Society Pet Walk, the Herb Brooks Foundation gala, the Special Olympics Polar Plunge, the Crohn’s Society Walk and the Husky Sportacular. In addition, Passolt hosts the annual Florida Holiday golf tournament in which the Huskies compete.
